Your One Landmark that draws you to Success

Your One Landmark that draws you to Success

“A person with comparatively moderate powers will accomplish much, if they apply themselves wholly and indefatigably (possessing or exerting or displaying energy) to one thing at a time.” Samuel Smiles

Over the years while teaching different classes on different subjects, this phrase would always fit as my clients and students move toward their goals. “Inch by inch is a cinch, yard by yard is hard.”

Whatever game, activity or project you are engaged in, keeping your mind focused on the big goal and applying the small steps to get there is how you will achieved the most results successfully.

Recently I was reading Brian Tracy’s book “Eat That Frog” for about the 4th time. Check it out here ( It’s a fun book to read and every year or so, I pick it up once again and latch on to all of the golden nuggets within the chapters. There was one chapter that was of particular interest to me this time… because now I’m so focused on the powerful outcomes from focusing on “The One Domino”… the one thing that gets me to the destination where I have the strongest intention to arrive successfully.

The chapter titled “Take It One Oil Barrel at a Time” led me on a mental journey and I feel will you also.

“Crossing a Great Desert”
… The story in my words.
As Brian was driving an old Range Rover across the heart of the Sahara Desert, which had been abandoned by the French for years … and was 500 miles across. Without any stations for refueling, water, food or even a fly… you can probably picture just how barren the terrain was. Totally flat, not a blade of grass and lots and lots of sand. Brian says, “It was like a broad, yellow sand parking lot that stretched to the horizon in all directions.”

To counter this lack of features, the French had marked the track with black, fifty-five-gallon oil drums every five kilometers, which was exactly the distance to the horizon, formed by the curvature of the earth.

Because of this, in the day time, they could see two oil barrels – the one they had just passed and the one five kilometers ahead of it. And that was all the focus needed to stay on course.

All we had to do was steer toward the next oil barrel. As a result, we were able to cross the biggest desert in the world by simply taking it “one barrel at a time.”

This is a strong message for me to bring you this week. You can accomplish your big dream as you Focus on your “One Domino…Your One Power Action” …one step at a time. Your job is to Identify your One Domino… the one thing you can do that by doing such it will make everything else easier or unnecessary, so you can go as far as you can see. You will then see your “Next Barrel” that will lead you to your destination… your Big Dream and Goal. You can travel without any fear of getting lost, because you have focused on your “One Barrel at a Time”.

Brings the best of the best… the outcomes you desire
It can be easy and fun… so let’s go and “Get It Done”
